Montemercurio Messaggero Vino Nobile di Montepulciano 2017
£27.50
The “Messagero” Nobile di Montepulciano has been developed from the careful selection of the best Sangiovese grapes that have been cultivated in the optimal zones of the DOCG region of the vineyards of Montemercurio winery. The wine demonstrates the finesse, elegance and the character of the great wines of Montepulciano, with full and robust taste, it leaves the palate with typical subtleties of the Sangiovese grape. Aromas of sweet cherry and maraschino cherry with traces of balsam and spices. Vino Nobile di Montepulciano is a wine for meats, such as a ragu of wild boar, or thick, grilled, Chianina steak. Pork sausages, salumi, and grilled or roasted lamb would also fit well as would roasted wild mushrooms over polenta or tagliatelle simply adorned with black truffles and olive oil.

Tuscany – Montemercurio
During the Roman Empire the town of Montepulciano was called Montemercurio and this is where this estate derives its name from. Mercurio was known as the messenger of the Greek gods and a temple to him was dedicated nearby.
Montemercurio makes 4 main wines: a white ‘Caduceo’ (a blend of Malvasia, white canaiolo, and local almost extinct pulcinculo), Tedicciolo (a blend of Sangiovese and Merlot), Rosso Di Montepulciano ‘Petaso’, two Nobile di Montepulciano: ‘Messaggero’ and ‘Damo’ (grand cru of the winery), and a unique VinSanto vintaged 1990/1992.
The winery is certified organic and every effort is made to make the wines as natural as possible.
