Fattoria Monticino Rosso Le Morine Sangiovese di Romagna Superiore Riserva 2018
£24.95
It seduces the nose with mint, chocolate and eucalyptus, while the fruit is already launched in an evolution on a bed of potpourri laced with spices. It’s impossible not to linger by the edge of the glass to take in its perfume: so refined is the complexity that develops while offering instants of alpine herbs, ripe red fruit, spices and flowers.
After a few minutes the scents become more definite, they earn depth. The olfactory balance enriches with mineral undertones, and adds suggestions of roses, pansies and iris.
The body is majestic, but in mouth goes by with extreme finesse, helped by a good freshness that follows the wine from the beginning till the end, with peaks of sapidity emerging at times. Tannins are gushing, fine and well distributed between flowery refrains and blueberries.

Monticino Rosso
Fattoria Monticino Rosso is a family-run winery. It was founded in 1965 thanks to Antonio Zeoli, who in that year bought the first plot of 13 hectares, called the “Olmo” winery. In the following years Antonio was joined by his sons Luciano and Gianni, now both at the helm of the company, and in 1985 the family acquired the “Monticino Rosso” winery, of 24 hectares, adjacent to the first and which will then give the name to the entire estate. The farm is located on the hills of Imola, on the border with the municipality of Dozza, where the production of sparkling wines from Emilia gives way to the still and impetuous wines of Romagna. “Monticino Rosso” was already clearly identified in the cadastral documents drawn up during the Napoleonic domination with the name of “Monticino dei meli granati” and for at least a century it was the property of the lords Codronchi Torelli, a noble family from Imola, whose well-being and culture have allowed harmoniously shape the landscape. And it is with a sense of gratitude towards those who have had the privilege of owning and loving these lands, preserving in them the cultivation of traditional vines, that Luciano and Gianni Zeoli wanted to give one of their most significant wines, the selection of Albana di Dry Romagna, the name of “Codronchio”.
