Veglio Michelino & Figlio is a small, family-owned and run vineyard located in the beautiful Piedmont region in north-western Italy. The winery produces red and white wines using traditional techniques inherited from previous generations and a selection of Low Histamines wines.
Osvaldo Veglio, the son of Michelino and the current owner, brings his experience as a winemaker, thanks to the help of his brother Mark and supported by his son Simone. The winery does not use chemical fertilisers and aims to produce the wine in the most natural way possible.
Low Histamines wines are the wines that contain no more than 0.5 mg of histamine per litre. This result is achieved by using grapes that naturally have lower histamine levels and ageing the wine in stainless steel tanks instead of wood. Due to a lower content of histamines, the wines can be drunk by people who are allergic to histamines and develop allergy or intolerance symptoms after drinking red wine.
Creation of this wines was a result of an extensive and thorough research conducted by a wine consultant Sebastiano Ramello and his collaboration with Veglio Michelino to create the wine that would contain no more than 0.5 mg of histamine per litre.
Main criteria followed:
– Production: Totally clean
– Vinification only in stainless steel tanks (oak is not allowed)
– Grapes: Grapes with a lower concentration of tannins are selected.
– Tannins: A maximum of 1.9g/l is accepted
– Histamines: A maximum of 0.5mg/l is the absolute highest level
– Sulphites: A maximum of 75mg/l is accepted
Currently Veglio Michelino & Figlio makes 5 Low Histamines wines: the white Chardonnay Low Histamines and 4 reds – Barbera d’Alba, Dolcetto d’Alba, Dolcetto Diano d’Alba and Nebbiolo d'Alba.
