Pargolo by Podere la Villa is a pleasant, drinkable, and very Tuscan-tasting wine made from 80% Sangiovese and 20% Merlot.  The grapes come from a single, 2.5-acre vineyard in the hills o San Casciano Val di Pesa, beautifully situated at the foot of the family farmhouse and overlooking the small village of Romola.

The first vintage was in 2007, the same year as the birth of Ilaria’s (the winery owner) son, and the wine was called after him (Pargolo means ‘a small child’).

The wine is ruby red with purple hues and full and fruity on the nose. On the palate, Pargolo is very amiable, dense, easily drinkable with a delicious finale. The perfect accompaniment to traditional Tuscan cuisines, such as grilled meat, pasta and pizza. Makes a great aperitif with aged cheese or sausage.

Podere la Villa

The story of the winery goes back to 2003 when Giacomo Tachis (the creator od Supertuscan wines Ornellaia, Sassicaia and Tignanello), decided to replant the old 1 1/4 hectare vineyard in front of Podere La Villa with Sangiovese and Merlot grapes.

In 2006 the vines began to bear fruit and indicated that the grapes would produce excellent results if they were treated with passion and dedication.

The winery is currently run by Giacomo’s daughter, Ilaria, who makes 2 wines: Chianti Classico il Pargolo (named after her son who was born the year of the first harvest), and Giacomo (Merlot 100%, named in honour of Ilaria’s father, Giacomo Tachis).

  1. 5 out of 5

    Barbara

Hi everybody, I have just had the opportunity of tasting various vintages of Pargolo and all of them were more then what I expected from a Chianti Classico annata. Some of them, in particular vintages 2016 and 2018 could be easily mistaken for a Riserva! Absolutely my wine!

  2. 4 out of 5

    Eva

Cranberry, campari, unripe plums; toasted and sour on the palate, bitter chocolate and cherrystone dries the finish. Absolutely perfect with Tuscan food

  3. 4 out of 5

    Olivier

Gourmet, fruity amp; melted tannins as we like. Evolved Italian aromas.
