Oasi degli Angeli Kurni Marche 2022
“Kurni” by Oasi degli Angeli winery is a World famous red wine made by enologist Marco Cassolanetti in the heart of Marche wine region. Kurni is made 100% from Montepulciano grapes and has a slightly higher sugar level than dry wines traditionally so it comes across off dry.
The wine is incredibly complex with highly intense fruity and spicy notes on the nose followed by rich and warm sensation on the palate with dense and refined tannins and a very long finish.
Kurni has created a lot of intriguing discussions in the last decade with the public and wine critics astonished by the complexity and the quality of the wine. Many have described Kurni as a wine with a very wide nose of red berries, spices, cocoa, mingling with deep earthy tones; sweetness, creaminess and tannic density on the palate with an awesome aromatic bouquet.
An important special wine making technique used by Marco Cassolanetti is ‘dense bush-tree systems’ of planting around 10,000 vines per hectare (compared to more typical quantity of 3,000-5,000 vines per hectare in Italy). Planting so many plants creates the situation where the wine has to ‘fight’ for nutrition and the vine routes have to go very deep under the ground. As a result the vine creates few but very complex wine bunches that allow to make the wine of a highest quality and sophistication.
How is the wine made?
The winemaking process in the cellar involves spontaneous fermentation, activated only by indigenous yeasts, carried out partly in steel and partly in large barrels, followed by a long refinement of 20 months in first-passage barriques.
