Aglianico ‘Omaggio a Gillo Dorfles’

“Omaggio a Gillo Dorfles” is the grand cru of the San Salvatore 1988 winery in Campania wine region. This Italian red wine is 100% indigenous Aglianico grape and aged 20 months in new French oak and then another 8 months in the bottle before release.

The wine is called in honour of an Italian artist Angelo Dorfles, known as ‘Gillo’, and is devoted to his friendship with the owner of the winery, Giuseppe Pagano. The label is, in fact, a sketch of the artist, and is different for each vintage.

The wine is intense ruby- red colour, typical for Aglianico grape, and is full of personality. On the nose, there are scents of red fruits and spices, such as mulberry, currant, tobacco. On the palate, tannins are powerful but elegant. Gillo Dorfles has ageing potential between 10 and 20 years. It will pair with tasty red meat and game, wild boar and aged cheeses.

Campania – San Salvatore

San Salvatore winery is located in the South West part of Campania, in the heart of the Cilento National Park, an ancient land, rich in history and tradition, where, as per belief, Aglianico, Fiano and Greco grapes were brought to by the Ancient Greeks.

San Salvatore is certified organic and is cultivating the land without synthetic products or genetically modified organisms.

The rose that the winery makes – Vetere – is incredibly delicate and pale, which is particularly impressive since it is made from Gaglioppo, one of the most tannic and dark red grapes.
